Well done to Carl 'The Iron Giant' Payne who picked a solid third place with Stragegic Prince at the 4:10 at Newmarket yesterday!

Hopefully you all followed our new tipsters each way bet and bagged yourself some nice winnings! smile.gif

so if i did put £10 on it what will i get? i'm new to this horsing thing, can someone explain the rule of betting, as far as i know if some horse is 1 to 20 that means if i put £10 down i get £200 is it? got a feeling it can't be that simple though~~~~~ rolleyes.gif

Yeah thats how it works i think - a £10 bet on a 20/1 horse that won would be £200 back plus your £10 stake! Bet on....

owenlalala- 10-23-2006
so i get £210 instead of £200, but i'm sure i can bet something that's winning get a place and not in the first 3, so say if i bet on somethin for both winning and not in top 3 what do i get? if same money was put in for get a place and not in top 3 will i win slightly or lose slightly? there must be more to it, all bettings are games of probability if only i can work out the intergrated sum under the mathimatical curve then i can~~~~~

i need more answers, as i have loads of questions. mad.gif sad.gif unsure.gif

Simply:-

A horse SP (starting price) is 10/1

Win Bet

£1 win wins £10 plus stake back = £11 (as long as the donkey wins, if it finishes 2,3,4,5th you get nothing you greedy money grabbing swine!)

Eachway Bet

£1 E/W = £2 total stake

Scenario 1 - Horse wins you get:-

£1 on win plus stake back = £11
£1 on 2nd/3rd (sometimes 4th or even 5th dependding on number of runners and bookie) at either 1/4 of odds or 1/5 of odds (bookie decides), therefore:-

10/1 (say 1/4 odds) is 2.5/1 so you get £1 at 2.5/1 plus stake back = £3.50

Overall Total for Scenario 1 = £11 win + £3.50 place = £14.50

Scenario 2 - Horse finishes 2,3,4,5th you get:-

£1 on win = £0 (the horse did not win - pick a better one next time!)
£1 on 2nd/3rd (sometimes 4th or even 5th dependding on number of runners and bookie) at either 1/4of odds or 1/5 of odds (bookie decides), therefore:-

10/1 (say 1/4 odds) is 2.5/1 so you get £1 at 2.5/1 plus stake back = £3.50

Overall Total for Scenario 2 = £3.50

Thats simple betting explained and i will not explain it again, if you cant grasp the basic then stay out the game or you will just end up in the gutter with other tramps!
